On September 30, 2025, the Department released Dear Colleague Letter GEN-25-08. This letter provides the latest information and updated guidance on the permitted access, disclosure, and use of Federal Tax Information (FTI), FAFSA data, and non-FAFSA data by schools, state agencies, and contractors under the Higher Education Act, the Internal Revenue Code, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and the Privacy Act of 1974.
To align with the release of this guidance, we have updated the existing online training courses on these topics in the FSA Training Center. The updated training includes activities and scenarios for practical application of the concepts.
If you have already taken this training earlier in this award year, we suggest you work through the updated versions of the courses. If you have never taken this training, this is a good opportunity to get acquainted with the requirements.
